Since 2004, Ravensberger Schmierstoffvertrieb GmbH (RAVENOL) has the goal of setting the standard in lubrication for racing and motorsport, the RAVENOL brand has become firmly established in numerous motorsport disciplines. After initially entering the national touring car series, the fields of activity have steadily increased over the years to the point where RAVENOL is now the Technical Partner to both teams and series in a wide variety of motorsport categories from automotive to motorcycle and even power boat racing.

RAVENOL Racing Oils enjoy a very high respect throughout the motorsport industry, largely due to the fact that RAVENOL works together directly with manufacturers in the area of engine and gearing technology. This guarantees a constant high quality standard for the RAVENOL lubricants used in motor sport. Large numbers of competitors in international Touring Car and Sports Car series are successfully using RAVENOL Racing Products. Ongoing technical support is provided to several single seater series, in particular the FIA Formula 3 Championship, where RAVENOL is the 'Official Lubricant and Car Care Product Partner'.

The technical abilities of the RAVENOL products are best expressed through the ongoing commitment to motorsport, and the ultimate test bed for developing high performance lubricants is the race track, where RAVENOL products have proved themselves time and time again under the most extreme conditions. RAVENOL rises to the challenge and as an active partner to both team and driver provides innovative solutions – whatever the application.

Additionaly RAVENOL is involved in the Blancpain GT Series, the GT4 European Championship and the 24h Le Mans race. Teams like Rosberg, Young Driver Aston Martin Racing, Farnbacher Racing and C.ABT Racing have all been RAVENOL partners over the past few years.

In 2013 RAVENOL signed a new international racing agreement with Bamboo Engineering for WTCC. The FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) is an international Touring Car championship sanctioned by the FIA.

Formula cars symbolize the concept of a racing car par excellence, and in this category RAVENOL is represented from the lowest junior classes to the highest racing classes, right up to, but not including Formula 1 itself. RAVENOL was also a long-standing standard partner of the German Formula 3 ATS Cup. RAVENOL supports several racing teams in ADAC Formula 4. In addition, they are a long-standing partner of Neuhauser Racing and partner teams such as Motopark Academy and Van Amersfoort Racing. Both teams also participate in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship series, of which RAVENOL is an official lubricant partner. Since June 2015, RAVENOL has been an exclusive technical premium partner of Opel Motorsport in the area of lubricants. This partnership comprises national and international rallying (Opel Adam) as well as touring-car racing where Opel is involved with the Opel Astra in both the TCR International Series and the ADAC TCR Germany.

Another exciting area is the cooperation with two teams in the FIA World Endurance Championship, WEC. At the pinnacle of endurance racing, the LMP1 category, RAVENOL cooperates with ByKOLLES Racing. And the highlight on the WEC calendar remains the motor-racing classic par excellence: the Le Mans 24-Hour Race.

With the start into the 2016 season, Ravensberger Schmierstoffvertrieb GmbH became official lubricant partner of the ADAC GT Masters and the ‘Spezial Tourenwagen Trophy’ that partly is contesting its races in the popular ADAC GT Masters event package.

The AUDI Sport TT Cup also will rely on the quality lubricants ‘Made in Germany’. RAVENOL is technology partner and official supplier of the sports-car series that was created by Audi in 2015.

In motorsport across the globe RAVENOL is there, working closely with manufacturers, race engineers, and drivers to develop some of the most technically advanced lubricants available today.

The seven Audi Sport TT Cup race meetings all are held times in the support programme of German Touring Car Masters (DTM) events and of the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race (Nürburgring). The Audi Sport TT Cup grid will feature a total of 24 cars that will be centrally prepared and ran by the quattro GmbH. 16 regulars from all over the world will battle it out with one another (a total of 125 young drivers from 36 countries applied for the 2016 Audi Sport TT Cup race seats). Martin Huning (Director Motorsport RAVENOL) and Philipp Mondelaer (Project Manager Audi Sport TT Cup)

The new Audi TT is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0 TFSI in-line four-cylinder petrol engine with direct fuel injection that delivers 228kW (310bhp) and is listed under the engine code CJX 035244 (fuel consumption 7,3 – 4,2 l/100km; CO2 emissions combined 169 – 110 g/km).

This engine, based on the EA888, belongs to the engine family comprising CJXE (265bhp), CJXA (280bhp), CJXH (290bhp) as well as CJXC (300bhp) and is used in the following vehicles: in the performance optimized version of the VW Golf VII GTI ‘Clubsport’, the VW Golf Mk7 R, the VW Golf R400, the SEAT Leon III Cupra and the Škoda Superb.

The concept of the motor-racing series Audi Sport TT Cup is based on Audi TT vehicles that always will be equipped with units and components in production spec. And the same applies to the lubricants used in the series. Over the course of the 2015 season, the RAVENOL lubricants suiting the race series were compared with the oils and other operating fluids used to date and also were examined according to the necessary specifications. One of the crucial factors: an official VW-Group approval already was available. Furthermore, RAVENOL has been supplier of Audi customer teams for many years. So, RAVENOL lubricants have been used – for instance – for many years and successfully in Audi R8 LMS vehicles.

quattro GmbH as organiser of the Audi Sport TT Cup opted for cooperating with RAVENOL and consequently, the lubricants are part of the Audi Motorsport involvement The oil used is RAVENOL VMP 5W-30. The vehicle features a standard gearshift and the dual-clutch gearbox DSG DQ-250 in the MQB spec. This six-speed gearbox with factory identification VW 0D9 is an enhancement of the proven DSG 02E gearbox. Here, the RAVENOL DCT/DSG gearbox fluid is applied. The hydraulic dual-circuit brake system with adjustable brake-power will work with RAVENOL Racing Brake Fluid R325+. While RAVENOL LGC Lobrid Glycerin Coolant HOT CLIMATE -15°C, based on monoethylene glycol, ensures maintenance free corrosion and antifreeze protection.

“I’m truly delighted with having the chance of cooperating with such a significant makes cup as Audi’s as this means that our lubricants now also will be used in the Audi Sport TT Cup”, said Martin Huning, Motorsport Director RAVENOL. “These lubricants that have been used in production cars were designed and developed to deliver in both motor racing and in the day-to-day traffic and so, they also can be uses in these vehicles. This means another direct link between motor racing and the day-to-day use, for our RAVENOL products. In addition, the series integrated in one of Germany’s most highly assessed event package and is very popular it its own right. In addition to the presentation of RAVENOL as series partner on every Audi Sport TT Cup racing car, one vehicle of the series will be particularly branded. On its sides it will wear the RAVENOL logo that is very well known in the motor racing world, today, and the bonnet will be decorated with the special logo ’70 years RAVENOL’ as hint to this year’s anniversary of the company.

At the same time, the RAVENOL lubricants also are used in maritime and two-wheel motor racing. But a main pillar of the company’s motor racing history is particularly strong long-term involvement in sports-car racing. And that’s exactly the area where RAVENOL and Phoenix Racing are going to cooperate in the future. Furthermore, RAVENOL has been a Hockenheimring partner since 2014. The huge 13-metre RAVENOL can is regarded as one of the landmarks of the Southern-German racetrack.

FIA Formula 3 European Championship

RAVENOL has been an official partner of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship since 2014. From the upcoming season, this partnership will be extended. Henceforth, the lubricant manufacturer from Eastern-Westfalia may refer to itself as the ‘Official Lubricant and Car Care Product Partner’ of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.

In 2013, the first year of the revived FIA Formula 3 European Championship, Ravensberger Schmierstoffvertrieb GmbH, founded in 1946, was already involved with its trade mark RAVENOL as the presenter of the live stream and the technical partner of the Van Amersfoort Racing team. From the very beginning, RAVENOL’s competition manager Martin Huning acknowledged the potential and the international prestige of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, so that the company became involved as an official partner of the top-level junior race series from 2014. Now, the next step follows for 2016: from this year, RAVENOL will not only have the title ‘Official Lubricant and Car Care Product Partner’ of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, but the competition lubricants RAVENOL RSS 10W-60 (engine) and RAVENOL Racing Gearoil (gearbox), plus the brake fluid RAVENOL Racing Brake Fluid R325+ were officially included into the FIA Formula 3 European Championship regulations, allowing the teams to use these products in competition. Moreover, the eye-catching blue-and-yellow RAVENOL logo will adorn the upper engine cover of all Formula 3 cars, the drivers’ suits, the podium and the sponsor backdrop.

“The FIA Formula 3 European Championship is a dynamic and successful race series that has developed in a very positive way in the past years. Here, the world’s best junior drivers are up against each other. This environment suits us perfectly. RAVENOL is just as modern, aspiring and efficient and our products are in top positions,” Martin Hunting, RAVENOL’s Director Motorsport says.

“It is always good when a partner is happy, continues its involvement and grows together with us,” says Walter Mertes, CEO of the Formel-3-Vermarktungs GmbH, organizer of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. “We, too, are very happy about the partnership with RAVENOL that exceeds the mere presence of the brand. Thus, both sides can mutually benefit from each other.”

WSB Endurance

In the coming season, 2016 / 2017, WSB Endurance will contest the FIM EWC together with its technology partner RAVENOL. The kick-off of the new season was contested adequately within the framework of the legendary Bol d‘Or 24h Race at Le Castellet. The season will be continued only in 2017.

The racing bike of the WSB Endurance Crew is a Kawasaki ZX 10 R (spec 2014) that was designed according to the FIM Formula EWC regulations. These alterations comprised – for instance – a quick-change system for both front and back wheels, a high-speed refuelling system and an enhanced suspension, featuring a fully adjustable front-wheel fork Öhlins FGR 300 and a multi-time adjustable suspension strut. The adjustability of the suspension and its highly sensitive response are ensured by the use of different RAVENOL wheel-fork oils that make sure that the aforementioned properties even are provided at temperatures beyond 40° C. So, the chosen suspension setup can be retained, optimised and used throughout a race. In the Beringer 4-piston brake system, WSB uses RAVENOL Racing Brake Fluid R325+as it clearly exceeds – according to team – the DOT 5 and DOT 5.1 requirements. Even in extreme temperatures. “During the previous 8h race the brake system displayed not the slightest indication of fading and perfectly harmonised with suspension and engine,” says Sascha Müller, one of the WSB Endurance drivers. To make for a consistent performance level of the engine at high temperatures, the air filter and the fuel injection system are maintained with RAVENOL Carb Cleaner Spray and RAVENOL Air Filter Oil. WSB Endurance also uses the RAVENOL Motorbike 4-T Ester SAE 10W-60 that does not only make for sufficient lubrication but also for a smoothly running engine – and with its additives, it also cleans the power unit that has to cope with high stresses and strains.

Molitor-Racing-Systems (MRS Racing) - GT and Endurance Racing

German lubricant manufacturer RAVENOL and Team MRS GT Racing have agreed upon a technology partnership for the GT area of the Lonsee, Germany based motor-racing team. Team MRS relies on the high-performance lubricants provided by the Ravensberg based manufacturer in both the NISSAN NISMO GTR GT3 competing in the ADAC GT Masters and the Porsche 991 Cup vehicles in the Hankook 24h Series. Furthermore, MRS is contesting with several vehicles the international Porsche makes cups, such as the Porsche Carrera-Cup Germany or the Porsche MOBIL1 Supercup. In about six race series, the team runs a total of 12 racing cars in some 36 events. This means that the Swabian independent team is one of the most active ones in Europe. Since 2001, the team is based with its own workshop in Lonsee, not far from Ulm. The faith of the team and its permanent employees has been managed from the very beginning by Iris Dorr and Karsten Molitor.

I am convinced that the merging of Opel Motorsport and RAVENOL’s expertise will create an extremely powerful combination, from which both companies will both profit enormously. Who knows? Maybe together we can make our already very successful Opel ADAM R2 even faster. Currently our factory driver, Emil Bergkvist, is leading the Rallye Junior European Championship and we will do everything possible to keep it that way until the end of the season.”

Martin Huning, responsible for motor sports at RAVENOL, adds: “As a producer of race lubricants our eyes are always on the application and further development of our products.
